First Rice (Annaprashan)
A first-taste blessing, offered in their name.
The first taste of solid food is a rite of its own: the family gathers, the maternal uncle offers the first spoon of rice, and a life of nourishment is blessed at its very first bite. This blessing carries the baby's name into the oldest words about food and being.

The prayer at its heart
Word for word, the way it has always been said. Their name goes at its head, and your words travel with it. The Sanskrit never arrives alone: a transliteration, so anyone can say it aloud, and its meaning in plain English.
Annād Bhavanti: From Food, All Beings
अन्नाद्भवन्ति भूतानि पर्जन्यादन्नसम्भवः । यज्ञाद्भवति पर्जन्यो यज्ञः कर्मसमुद्भवः ॥
annād bhavanti bhūtāni parjanyād anna-sambhavaḥ | yajñād bhavati parjanyo yajñaḥ karma-samudbhavaḥ ||
From food all beings come to be; from rain, food arises; from offering, rain; and offering is born of work. At the first taste of rice, the whole turning circle of nourishment is blessed.
